The 5th annual Giant Steps Charity Classic is a six-day, AA rated horse show that showcases top regional, national and international equestrians – from up-and-coming junior athletes to the best of the best, including Olympic competitors. Over $120,000 in prize money is at stake as horses and riders of all ages and levels compete throughout the week. The title events of the week are listed here.

Thursday July 31, 2014

Show jumping is the only Olympic sport in which men and women compete equally, and Thursday evening features a local favorite: Wild Turkey Farm’s Battle of the Sexes. A team of 10 men and a team of 10 women will go head-to-head, battling it out over a 1.20m speed course. The winner of each round is invited onto the podium to cheer on the remaining pairs. The highest number of men or women on the podium after the final pairing compete takes home the title, prize money and bragging rights. Wild Turkey Farm’s Battle of the Sexes is a crowd favorite and one of the most anticipated competitions of the year.

Friday’s featured event is the $15,000 Eden Valley Stables Gambler’s Choice. All obstacles in the arena carry from 10 to 120 points according to difficulty. Each rider may choose to jump any of the obstacles, in any order and in any direction within a set time allowed. If an obstacle is knocked down, no points will be awarded and the rider cannot jump that obstacle again.  The rider who obtains the highest number of points will be declared the winner. Spectators will enjoy a catered dinner and wine on the VIP berm throughout this event.

Saturday's $10,000 Six Bar jumping competition and Gala presented by Gucci is an unforgettable evening featuring superb food and wine by Park Avenue Catering, the tremendously exciting six-bar competition, live and silent auctions, and a riding demonstration by some very inspirational Giant Steps riders. In 2013, the event welcomed more than 500 guests, and raised more than $175,000 for Giant Steps' programs. The evening commences at 4pm with a champagne reception. Tickets may be purchased here.

Sunday August 3, 2014

The $40,000 Grand Prix is an Olympic-level show jumping competition taking place on Sunday afternoon; the best horses and riders from all over the Western United States, Canada and Mexico battle it out for Charity Classic’s top honor. Spectators will enjoy an exceptional sporting experience, gourmet food and wine, premeir shopping and the opportunity to meet the riders. Food is available for purchase from a variety of vendors. Grand stand seating is complimentary, or if you wish, you can bring chairs or a blanket and enjoy the competition from the riverbank overlooking Sonoma Horse Park’s Grand Prix Arena.
